3-16-16 Bubble Popper

God is in the bubble popping ministry. Someone who is a Christian with a pride problem can suddenly have their hopes and goals dashed as quickly as a balloon exploding.

This passage of scripture talks about the struggles of trying to do things without God involved. Human nature likes to take pride in things. This pride sneaks into a Christian’s life, as well.

The same event that pops a self-indulgent person’s bubble, is the same event God gives grace to a humble person. Instead of getting angry, the humble person trusts God. His bubble was popped, too, yet He is not fussing, fighting, kicking, and complaining at God.

Take a chronic illness such as Parkinson’s disease. Many people are angry and bitter at God for it. They resent that their goals were shattered and remain mad at God. Others accept His will for their lives and depend on God’s grace for each day (grace is undeserved favor).

Pride is so subtle. I can find myself proud of my humbleness – ain’t that a kicker? The secret is to seek God’s grace every day by coming to Him without an “attitude” or cockiness. He is not a genie placed in my life to grant my every wish. He is there to help me learn to trust in Him.

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” James 4:6.
